Summer Immersion Camp Positions

Envision Lead Grow is in need of Summer Immersion Counselors (2), Videographer (1-2), Photographer (1), Content Creator (1), Program Assistant (1-2), and Student Nurse (1-2). Summer Immersion Temporary Staffing are an essential part of Envision Lead Grow’s Summer Immersion experience.  Program Assistant and Content Creator positions have the potential to turn into a longer position beyond the Summer Immersion experience.

Envision Lead Grow (ELG) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Norfolk, VA. ELG’s vision is to transform communities of poverty into communities of prosperity through the promise of middle schoolers. Our mission is to increase the rate of entrepreneurship in today’s youth, thereby transforming communities of poverty to communities of prosperity through economic development, social justice, and promoting ownership, equity, and investment in marginalized communities.

Envision Lead Grow (ELG) Summer Immersion Camp is an all-expense paid, week-long, sleepaway camp at a local university for ELG’s top performing girl bosses from across the nation. These girl bosses have participated in ELG’s programming for at least three years, have completed all year-round mentoring sessions, assignments, and webinars, and have shown the most dedication to learning, leading, and making their businesses profitable. These top-performing girl bosses were selected from cities across the U.S. that exhibit the highest levels of children living in poverty. Girl bosses will partake in an immersive, hands-on learning experience of 40 working, out-of-school time hours, focusing on entrepreneurship, social-emotional learning, leadership, social advocacy, and college preparation.

Event dates are July 10-29, 2022.

SUMMER IMMERSION TEMPORARY STAFFING POSITIONS:

Summer Immersion Counselor Role Description

Summer Immersion Counselors will work directly with participants while practicing leadership skills. After undergoing training, counselors will take ELG’s Eight Seeds to Success curriculum and facilitate it to small groups of middle school girls. Counselors are responsible for supervision of their group throughout the summer, during core activities as well as additional activities the participants will partake in. A typical day will revolve around facilitating for, interacting with and supervising participants. Counselors not leading sessions are assisting with various duties around camp (event planning and organizing, office work). Evenings involve participation, supervision, and leadership in planned activities. If you are a college student considering a career in art, teaching, sports management, dance, theater, fine arts, child development, child psychology or management, this position provides practical, meaningful experience to build your resume.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate curriculum to groups of 10-20 middle school girls
  • Assist with all aspects of the daily running of Summer Camp including supervision of campers
  • Participate in programs and activities with participants giving adult guidance and leadership
  • Interpret and administer personnel policies and camp guidelines
  • Act as a leader in a chosen program area (i.e. drama, singing, sports, science, etc.)
  • Create and plan daily activities within program area
  • Serve as a role model and guide participants in appropriate behaviors, languages, attitudes, and activities
  • Communicate with Program Manager routinely regarding plans, problems and concerns

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 19+
  • Caring, patient, fun-loving, energetic, and truly love working with children
  • Skilled and experienced in one of more program area
  • Experience working with school-aged children, preferably girls
  • Leadership experience among peers
  • Ability to make decisions and act wisely in an emergency

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Experience with leadership, time management, public speaking, role modeling, and teaching.

Videographer Role Description

We are looking for an organized and creative videographer to work with our creative team to plan, film, and edit video content according to ELG’s mission and summer camp brie. The videographer’s responsibilities include ensuring that the necessary filming equipment is available for use, directing other camera operators on set, and editing film footage.

To be successful as a videographer you must be able to understand ELG’s mission and brief and work creatively to produce the desired product. A good videographer should stay up to date with industry trends and tools that will make projects more marketable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Film videos on set or on location.
  • Ensure that equipment for a shoot is present and working.
  • Plan the shoot with the creative team and ELG.
  • Edit footage in post-production.
  • Direct other camera operators, if applicable, so that the needed footage is acquired.
  • Communicate with Program Manager routinely regarding plans, problems and concerns

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 19+
  • Excellent computer literacy.
  • Proficiency with editing software such as PhotoShop.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Relative fitness and stamina to work long hours.
  • Proficiency with camera equipment.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Experience with leadership, time management, critical thinking, and media production, including skills in story development, producing, cinematography, editing, and audio production/postproduction.

Photographer Role Description

ELG Summer Immersion Photographers record our history-in-the-making summer camp event and tell our girl bosses’ stories using images. They take pictures of people, places, events, and objects for all marketing and reporting purposes for key stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Capture and edit visual content for multiple platforms.
  • Produce photography in various methods including digital media.
  • Deliver raw and final products to ELG team.
  • Perform retouching and image adjustments after shoots.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 19+
  • Excellent artistic ability and eye for detail.
  • Proficiency with editing software such as PhotoShop.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, customer service, and business skills.
  • Proficiency with camera equipment.

  • Experience with leadership, time management, creativity, and portfolio building, including skills in story development and editing.

Content Creator Role Description

As the content creator, you will be responsible for creating, reviewing and editing content for ELG, which will be published in our website, blog and social media pages. Creators are expected to work simultaneously with the marketing team to plan and deliver marketing campaigns and publish content.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the marketing team to get an understanding of the short term and long-term marketing targets and then develop content strategies accordingly
  • Creating content which will catch maximum stakeholder interest
  • Writing and reviewing content for websites, social media pages and public communications
  • Maintain consistency in content and ensure alignment with the brand history and plans
  • Update the website, social media and content pages as instructed

  • Must be 19+
  • Excellent artistic ability and eye for detail.
  • Proficiency with design and editing software such as PhotoShop or Canva
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, customer service, and business skills.

Program Assistant Role Description

A Program Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to ELG team members throughout the planning and implementation of the Summer Immersion Camp programs. Their duties include communicating between program participants and managerial staff, assisting in the planning and managing program agenda, and coordinating event logistics and operations. The Program Assistant performs the tasks and responsibilities assigned by the Program Director. In this job, your duties could include preparing supplies, decorating an event space, testing lighting and microphones, and running general errands to aid the Summer Immersion Camp facilitation and curriculum delivery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reporting to Program Director and performing secretarial and administrative duties.
  • Typing, formatting, and editing reports, documents, and presentations.
  • Entering data, maintaining databases, and keeping records.
  • Managing internal and external correspondence on behalf of Program Director.
  • Maintaining event agenda and calendar and sending reminders to Program Director.
  • Preparing facilities for scheduled events and arranging refreshments, if required.
  • Preparing and organizing supplies and learning materials
  • Observing best business practices and etiquette.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 19+
  • Extensive experience in creating documents and spreadsheets, using office software such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, customer service, and business skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills

Student Nurse Role Description

Summer Immersion Camp Student Nurses are responsible for the care and supervision of all first-aid services. This care includes looking after ill or injured campers or staff, administering medication, communication with parents/guardians and staff, organization of medical information, medications and first-aid kits, as well as keeping records of camper visits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in organizing and setting up the ELG Health Office
  • Making sure inventory of First-Aid kits is supplied and maintained
  • Maintain insurance forms and camper health forms
  • Keep a daily log of camper’s office visits
  • Accept and store all prescription and over-the-counter drugs
  • Administer prescription and over-the-counter drugs when necessary
  • Assist in providing a staff orientation for the ELG Health Office
  • Illness and injury management
  • Communication with parents and counselors of camper’s illness or injury
  • Be a medical resource that would bridge the gap between basic medical knowledge and emergencies
  • Providing First Aid for:
    • cuts, scrapes and bruises
    • bee stings
    • dehydration and sunburn

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21+
  • Current nursing student, preferably licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Virginia
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Ability to maintain health forms and paperwork
  • Ability to maintain and administer all medications
  • Ability to make decisions and take initiative under pressure
  • Good communication skills

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Experience with application of nursing practices and patient care, information systems, and communication.
